PNEUMATIC CONVEYING SYSTEMS — DENSE, SEMI-DENSE & DILUTE PHASE
Cyclonaire is a leading designer and manufacturer of custom pneumatic conveying systems and equipment for dry bulk material transfer. Headquartered in York, Nebraska, Cyclonaire engineers purpose-built solutions for dense phase, semi-dense phase, and dilute phase conveying applications — from single components to complete turnkey systems. Their approach is straightforward: instead of fitting your process to off-the-shelf equipment, they customize every solution to precisely match your material characteristics, throughput requirements, and facility constraints.
Trotter Equipment represents Cyclonaire across Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and West Virginia. Whether you are evaluating a new pneumatic conveying system, retrofitting an existing installation, or troubleshooting a performance problem, our engineers work closely with Cyclonaire’s application team to identify the right conveying method and equipment for your specific material and process — from initial concept through startup and ongoing support.
Pneumatic Conveying Methods
Selecting the right conveying phase is the most critical decision in pneumatic conveying system design. The correct phase depends on your material’s particle size, bulk density, moisture content, friability, cohesiveness, and hygroscopicity. Cyclonaire engineers all three phases:
- Dense Phase Conveying — Material moves through the pipeline at low velocity in a high-product-to-air ratio, either as a moving plug or in a sliding bed. Dense phase is the preferred method for fragile or abrasive materials where particle degradation and pipeline wear must be minimized. Operating pressures are higher and conveying velocities are lower than dilute phase, resulting in gentler product handling and significantly reduced wear on pipelines, bends, and terminal equipment. Ideal for carbon black, cement, fly ash, fine chemicals, pigments, battery materials, and other abrasive or friable bulk solids.
- Semi-Dense Phase Conveying — A hybrid conveying mode operating between dense and dilute phase conditions. Semi-dense phase delivers higher throughput than dense phase while still maintaining lower velocities and gentler handling than full dilute phase. Well-suited for materials that are moderately abrasive or that cannot tolerate the high velocities of dilute phase systems. Cyclonaire’s semi-dense systems are designed to operate reliably across a wide range of material flow conditions.
- Dilute Phase Conveying — Material is suspended in the airstream and conveyed at high velocity in a low-product-to-air ratio. Dilute phase is the most common form of pneumatic conveying and is suitable for materials that are not fragile or highly abrasive. Both pressure and vacuum dilute phase systems are available. Pressure systems push material from a single source to one or more destinations; vacuum systems pull material and are well-suited for multiple pick-up points feeding a single destination.
Cyclonaire Equipment
Cyclonaire designs and manufactures a comprehensive range of pneumatic conveying equipment, all custom-engineered for your specific application and built in the U.S.A.:
Conveyors
- HC Series Conveyors — High-capacity pressure conveyors engineered for cement and minerals applications requiring reliable dense or semi-dense phase transfer at high throughput rates. Robust construction for continuous-duty industrial service.
- GF Series Conveyors — Gravity-fed pressure conveying systems designed for reliable material transfer in cement and minerals processing environments. Available in multiple configurations to match system layout and throughput requirements.
- CB Series Blend-Veyor — Combined blending and conveying in a single system. The Blend-Veyor simultaneously blends multiple dry bulk materials while conveying them to the destination point — eliminating the need for separate blending equipment and reducing system complexity and footprint.
- Dense Phase Vacuum (DPV) Loaded Conveyor — A versatile conveying system that uses vacuum to load material into a pressure vessel, then pressure to discharge it — combining the pick-up flexibility of vacuum with the conveying efficiency of pressure. Suited for battery, rail sanding, cement, rubber, and minerals applications.
- Cyclolift — Vertical dense phase conveying system for transferring bulk materials directly upward with minimal horizontal run. Ideal for cement and minerals applications where headroom is limited and vertical elevation is required.
- Turbo Inductor — Venturi-based material induction device for introducing bulk materials into a pneumatic conveying line without mechanical feeding equipment. Low-maintenance design with no moving parts. Suited for cement and minerals applications.
Feeding Devices
- Rotary Airlock Valves — Precision-machined rotary airlocks for metering dry bulk materials into pneumatic conveying lines and pressure systems while maintaining air seal integrity. Available in multiple sizes and materials of construction.
- Pressure Vessels & Blow Tanks — Pressure-rated vessels for dense phase and semi-dense phase conveying. Batch-operated blow tanks discharge material into the conveying line under pressure for gentle, efficient transfer of abrasive and friable materials.
- Bulk Bag Unloader — Integrated bulk bag (super sack) unloading and pneumatic conveying system. Allows direct transfer of material from bulk bags into the pneumatic conveying line without intermediate handling. Available for cement, minerals, and rubber applications.
Air Movers
- Roots-Type Blowers — Positive displacement rotary lobe blowers for providing the continuous airflow required in dilute and semi-dense phase pneumatic conveying systems. Sized to match system pressure drop and volumetric flow requirements.
- Compressors & Air Supply Systems — Complete air supply packages for dense phase conveying applications requiring higher operating pressures. Includes air receivers, dryers, filters, and controls integrated with the conveying system.
Filtering
- Filter and Vacuum Receiver — Integrated filter receiver for separating conveyed material from the conveying air at the destination point. Pulse-jet cleaned filter elements provide continuous, uninterrupted operation. Available for battery, minerals, cement, and rubber applications. Eliminates the need for separate dust collection equipment at the terminal end of the conveying system.
- Bin Vents & Dust Filters — Compact filter units for venting storage silos, hoppers, and bins during pneumatic filling operations. Prevents dust emissions while maintaining proper vessel pressure balance.
Storage & Accessories
- Storage Silos & Hoppers — Custom-designed bulk material storage vessels sized and configured for your specific material and process requirements. Available with aeration, level indication, and bin activator options for reliable mass flow discharge.
- Convey Line Accessories — Complete range of conveying line components including diverter valves, blind tees, ceramic-lined bends, pipeline couplings, and instrumentation for building and optimizing pneumatic conveying systems.
